Experience the History of British Motoring at Great British Car Journey – A Unique Interactive Museum
Great British Car Journey, an innovative interactive car museum, opened its doors in May 2021, offering a one-of-a-kind experience that immerses visitors in the rich history of British car manufacturing. Founded by Richard Usher, the museum was established to showcase a carefully curated collection that tells the compelling story of how the British automobile industry has shaped the way we travel.
The museum takes visitors on a captivating nine-chapter journey, starting in 1922 with Herbert Austin's creation of the iconic Austin Seven and concluding in the post-Millennium era, when the great car-making factories of the UK, including Longbridge, Luton, and Dagenham, ceased car production. This unique narrative highlights the significance of ordinary cars produced in the millions, many of which have nearly disappeared from the roads, alongside the celebrated Great British sports and GT cars.
At the heart of the visitor experience is an interactive audio-visual tablet that provides in-depth information on every exhibit, with special attention given to those vehicles owned by notable figures or with fascinating histories.
In addition, the museum offers the exciting "Drive Dad’s Car" experience, where, on designated days, visitors have the rare opportunity to drive one of 50 classic cars, ranging from an Austin Seven to a Rolls Royce, along a private road route.
Great British Car Journey has quickly garnered acclaim for its innovative approach, earning numerous awards and recognition. Most notably, it was recently ranked 17th among car museums worldwide based on Google reviews, with only one other UK museum ranking higher.
