New Kid on the Block at Kynren in Bishop Auckland

Kynren – An Epic Tale of England has recently welcomed a new addition to its talented animal cast, with the arrival of a British Saanen goat. Already proving popular with the cavalry team, the playful and charismatic youngster has been affectionately named Snowdrop.

Laurie Robinson, director of cavalry and estates at Kynren, said: “Right now we’re focused on helping Snowdrop feel comfortable in her new surroundings, introducing her to the volunteers she’ll be performing alongside and making sure she’s settled before training begins for the 2025 summer season.”

A call-out on social media invited the public to help name the new arrival, with Snowdrop chosen as the winning suggestion—a fitting name for her snowy white coat and springtime birth.

“Her name suits her perfectly,” added Laurie. “She’ll be appearing in scenes such as the Georgian Harvest, which highlights the country’s agricultural traditions. It’s a beautiful part of the 90-minute show where adults, children, and animals come together in a visually stunning celebration of rural life.”

Snowdrop joins a remarkable cast of animals at Kynren—including horses, cattle, sheep and geese—all of which live on site throughout the year and are cared for by the expert cavalry team. Many of the show’s 1,000-strong volunteer cast and crew interact with the animals during the live performances, learning to understand their body language and work in harmony to create a seamless experience.

The animals often steal the spotlight in scenes that bring 2,000 years of British history, myth, and legend to life. Set against the backdrop of Auckland Palace, this spectacular outdoor show follows young Arthur on a journey through time, from the might of the Roman Empire and Viking invasions to the drama of jousting knights and the splendour of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

The show also celebrates community and tradition in scenes like the Georgian Harvest Festival, where people and animals share the stage in moments of joy and connection.

Performances begin at sunset and end beneath the stars, running every Saturday night from 19 July to 13 September.

Tickets start from £30 for adults and £20 for under 18s, with children aged 3 and under admitted free when seated on an adult’s knee.
