Mersey Ferries’ Beloved Blue Badge Guide Sets Sail into Retirement!

Blue Badge Guide, Les Cox set sail today on what would be his last Mersey Ferry cruise providing expert commentary. He was joined at the Pier Head Ferry Terminal by senior members of Merseytravel and his family, to wish him well on his final voyage after almost 20 years of service.

Speaking on the big day, Les Cox said:

“I have been a Blue Badge Guide with Mersey Ferries for nearly 20 years. It has been an absolute honour to provide both residents and visitors to the Merseyside with commentary on-board one of the North West’s most iconic attractions.

“I have provided commentary for countless cruise ships visiting the Port, including Cunard’s 175th Anniversary celebration, the departure and return of two Round the World Clipper races as well as the Tall Ships races.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time but I think it is now time to stand aside for the ‘new blood’ that is awaiting an opportunity.”

Gary Evans, Head of Customer Delivery at Merseytravel said:

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Les, who has brought so much knowledge and expertise to Mersey Ferries.

“He has helped to facilitate over 850 cruises along the Manchester Ship canal, serving over quarter of a million customers and been key in helping to develop the excellent service we offer our customers today .”
