Celebrate Summer and Railway Heritage at Kent & East Sussex Railway
This summer, the Kent & East Sussex Railway proudly showcases the enduring legacy and character of the locomotives that defined the post-steam era. The Diesel Gala will feature two standout guest engines from the Southern network: the British Rail Class 205 ‘Thumper’ Unit 1118, famed for its unmistakable engine sound and classic design, and Class 50 no. 50017 ‘Royal Oak’, resplendent in the iconic Network Southeast livery. After last year’s sell-out success, advance booking is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
To make the most of the longer summer days, the railway is also introducing Early Bird train services, running most Wednesdays and Saturdays from 23rd July through August. Departing Tenterden Town Station at 08:45, these special services allow more time to explore the scenic line and its attractions—especially the hidden garden at Bodiam Station. This peaceful spot, lovingly maintained by volunteers, is ideal for a family picnic before your return journey.
