Autumn red and gold on display at Hole Park

Hole Park is renowned for its stunning spring flowers, particularly the iconic bluebells, but its vibrant autumn display in this serene Wealden gem is equally captivating and can be enjoyed in the months ahead.

As the bright colours of summer fade, the gardens and woodlands at Hole Park transform into a magnificent display of rich reds, yellows, and golds, showcasing the splendour of autumn. The trees and shrubs planted over the past century were thoughtfully chosen to create this striking range of colour and contrast at this time of year.

The gardens will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout September and October from 11am to 6pm. In addition, Hole Park will be open on Sundays during October, allowing visitors to enjoy the unfolding beauty of the golden season before the gardens close for the year on Thursday 30th October, reopening in Spring 2025.

Free Children's Activities

Hole Park has organised a range of free autumn activities for children as they explore the gardens and woodlands. Along with the ‘Wonderful Wildlife Walk’ trail, there is a leaf hunt to help children identify different tree leaves, and a Pumpkin Letter Trail where they can form an autumnal word. Completed trails can be handed in for a reward sticker.

Autumn Treats

After exploring, hungry visitors can head to the Coach House Tea Room for homemade soup with a Cranbrook Bakery roll or a hot sausage roll. The Coach House will serve light lunches, teas, cakes, and other refreshments on all open days. Free colouring sheets are also available to keep little ones entertained at the table.

Dog-Friendly

An autumn walk is a wonderful way to enjoy the ‘Golden Season’, especially with a four-legged friend. Dogs are welcome throughout the gardens and in the outdoor seating area of the Coach House Tea Room, although not inside.

Guided History Tour

On Friday 11th October, there will be a rare opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of Hole Park and its gardens from the current custodian, Edward Barham.

An original illustration of the house

The Barham family has owned Hole Park since 1911, and during this guided tour, Edward Barham will share not only the history of their 113 years of ownership but also the estate's intriguing past. This captivating story will be enriched by various historically significant artefacts collected by the family, including recently acquired original portraits of the estate's former occupants and their families.

The talk and tour will commence at 10:30 am and will last approximately two hours. Tickets are priced at £21, with a concession available for current Season Ticket holders. This price includes coffee or tea beforehand in the Coach House and exclusive access to the gardens afterwards, while they are closed to the general public.
