A magical Christmas awaits groups at Belvoir Castle

As the festive season approaches, few historic houses embrace the magic of Christmas quite like Belvoir Castle. Overlooking the sweeping Vale of Belvoir, the magnificent stately home will once again throw open its doors throughout November and December, inviting visitors to experience an enchanting celebration inspired by the timeless traditions of Christmas.

Following the success of last year's festive programme, which attracted thousands of visitors, the 2026 theme, Decking the Halls, promises another spectacular transformation. Every elegant State Room will be beautifully dressed with lavish seasonal decorations, each taking inspiration from a different much-loved Christmas carol. From glittering displays to beautifully decorated trees and atmospheric lighting, visitors can expect festive grandeur around every corner.

The celebrations begin from the moment guests arrive, with choirs and musicians providing live performances at the castle entrance, creating a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere that perfectly captures the spirit of the season.

After exploring the beautifully decorated interiors, groups can wander through the peaceful winter gardens before enjoying one of Belvoir Castle's most popular festive experiences – a traditional Christmas Afternoon Tea served in the unique Aviary Tearoom. The castle holds a fascinating place in afternoon tea history, as it was during a visit by the Duchess of Bedford that the custom of taking a light meal between lunch and dinner is said to have begun, creating a tradition that continues to this day.

Returning by popular demand is the remarkable four-foot-wide gingerbread model of Belvoir Castle. Crafted by award-winning cake and sugar artist Michelle Walters, the intricate edible creation has been refreshed with new festive details, making it another highlight of the Christmas experience.

Beyond the castle itself, the lively Retail Village offers plenty more to discover. Visitors can browse independent boutiques, enjoy seasonal workshops and festive entertainment, meet Belvoir's much-loved reindeer and pick up Christmas gifts and locally produced treats. The Belvoir Farm Shop will also be filled with luxury hampers, estate-produced wines, rare breed meats and an abundance of festive produce, making it an ideal place to stock up for Christmas celebrations.

Whether visitors are looking for a memorable festive day out, an early Christmas celebration or simply the chance to enjoy one of England's finest historic houses dressed for the season, Belvoir Castle offers an experience full of warmth, tradition and seasonal charm.
