The Wensleydale Railway for groups

The Wensleydale Railway is a heritage line running

between Scruton in the Vale of Mowbray traveling up to

Leyburn on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park,

passing through the Georgian market town of Bedale and

terminating at the Dales market town of Leyburn.

With constantly changing scenery, from the arable

lands of the Vale of Mowbray in the east, to hills of the

Yorkshire Dales in the west.  We really do have one of

the most scenic lines in the country with views right

across the dale as you travel up the line.

Last year we introduced our heritage trail which gave
visitors their first chance to visit Scruton Station.  Both Scruton and Leeming Bar stations have benefited from Heritage Lottery Grants and now our volunteers happily dress in costume and depict life in the 1920s at both Scruton and Leeming Bar. We have received some fantastic
feedback from our visitors during the last year.

Following all the complications that Covid has

brought us over the past couple of years we are

slowly working on opening up the full line to

Redmire again to visitors.  This year we are back

to full running to Leyburn which we are thrilled

about.

We have small buffets at all our stations for

refreshments but both Bedale and Leyburn have an abundance of cafes and public houses to satisfy all tastes. There are also many walks around the area together with cycle routes.

We have many other attractions nearby with the

Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes and The Herriott

Centre in Thirsk as well as many pretty market

towns round and about.  We are situated in the

centre of magnificent countryside and well worth

a visit.  We can offer afternoon or cream teas

please just ask for details. Our coach company

visitors have really enjoyed reminiscing about life

as it used to be. We are confident your passengers

will enjoy everything we have to offer at our Railway in

the wonderful Yorkshire countryside.
